Soil Preparation for Sod
If existing grass:
Spray entire yard with “Roundup” or a brand-name herbicide that contains the active ingredient glyphosate. Wait 7 days and spray again. Wait 7 more days and roto- till entire yard and spray one more time to kill any existing roots or weeds in soil. For best results ,wait 7 days and add a premium top soil. Sod is ready to lay.
If raw dirt:
Rough grade by sloping the grade away from foundation and filling low-lying areas. Till the existing soil to a minimum depth of at least 2-3 inches before adding any topsoil. Rake any rocks or hard dirt and discard.
